Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub has been providing physical therapy services to the downtown community for over 25 years. Our physiotherapists specialize in treating ankle pains caused by ankle sprains, running injuries, Achilles tendonitis, osteoarthritis, and more.

What sets Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub apart is our treatment: our therapists have extensive post-graduate training in physiotherapy for ankles. We treat you – and only you – for the entire session, providing you with an accurate diagnosis, excellent therapy, and a strong treatment. Because a large amount of ankle injuries come from running, we can also offer you a running assessment to ensure that your form and technique are optimal for your body!

For ankle pain relief, we recommend the following:

For ankle pains, sprains, and injuries that just can’t seem to heal no matter what, Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub can provide a multidisciplinary approach – one of the most effective means of treating any injury. At Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub, we have one goal in our treatments: we want to not only treat your pain but prevent it from recurring.

Once our physiotherapists have diagnosed your ankle pain, they use a combination of different techniques, including manual therapy, PNF stretching, Gunn IMSultrasound therapy, and exercise prescription to alleviate your symptoms and treat your injury.

When needed, you can add other modalities to your treatment plan – such as massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, stretch therapy, and more. As part of Electra Health, you can easily access any of these other treatment types that you need.

What Can I Expect From My Session?

At your first appointment, you will meet with one of our physiotherapists, who will take a detailed health history from you and hear your chief concerns and complaints. He or she will then perform an assessment, including a series of special tests, and range of motion tests, to determine a diagnosis for your ankle pain.

Then, your physiotherapist will perform treatment to help alleviate symptoms and strengthen your ankle. Our physiotherapists are trained in a variety of different techniques, including Gunn IMS, acupuncture, ultrasound therapy, low-level laser therapy, PNF stretching, and exercise prescription. Depending on your ankle pain, he or she will use a combination of any of these techniques.

You will also receive a complete treatment plan, which includes any additional treatments that you need, an exercise prescription, an at-home stretching and strengthening plan, and any additional tips to help strengthen the ankle joint and prevent future injury.

In some instances, our physiotherapists may recommend other types of treatment – such as chiropractic care, massage therapy, and acupuncture. Because Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub is part of a larger multidisciplinary clinic called Electra Health, getting access to these treatments is easy!

Frequently Asked Questions

What helps a sprained ankle heal faster?

We recommend that you come to see us immediately after a sprained ankle. Starting physiotherapy as soon as possible will give you the best outcome in terms of recovery time.

In addition, we recommend the RICE method:

  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Compression
  • Elevation
What causes ankle pain without injury?

Sometimes, our ankles can start hurting without a known cause. While it’s tempting to assume that you’ve injured it without realizing, ankle pain without injury can occur for several different reasons.

A very common reason for ankle pain without injury is arthritis in the joint. This is particularly common as you age. But don’t panic! Physical therapy is a great option if this is you, and treatment can help relieve that pain.

Should I exercise if my ankle hurts?

This depends largely on what is causing your pain. We recommend that you first see one of our physiotherapists to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan before exercising with ankle pain.

In certain instances however, especially if you are recovering from an injury or having arthritis in your ankle joint, light exercise like walking can help loosen up muscles and tendons that are tight.

Why does my ankle hurt after sleeping?

Pain in your ankle after sleeping can be a symptom of a few different things. One of the more common causes for this type of pain is related to stiffness post-sleep. Especially if you are recovering from an ankle sprain or other type of injury, your muscles and tendons can be stiff in the morning. For this, we recommend a few light morning stretches.

In rare cases, ankle pain after sleeping can be a symptom of osteoarthritis. At Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub, our physiotherapists can provide you with an accurate diagnosis for your ankle pain.

At Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub, our physiotherapists are experts in diagnosing and treating ankle pain. Whether it’s a sprain, a break, or another condition, we’ve got you covered. Our unique approach to treatment means you are in the best hands so that you can get back – and stay – feeling your best!

I was dealing with a rare condition causing some facial paralysis. Christina Wong is so helpful and caring about her patients. She helped me understand the road to recovery, massage techniques and ways to activate my facial nerves and facial muscles and what to expect with the symptoms I felt as I healed. My condition made me anxious and I found that few people in medicine understand it fully. Thankfully I talked with Christina who specializes in facial muscular nerve retraining so I could relax and allow myself to heal without stress. God bless her.
