Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub has been providing physical therapy services to the downtown community for over 25 years. Our physiotherapists specialize in treating shoulder pain caused from tendonitis, post-surgical rehab, torn rotator cuffs, bursitis, frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement, SAIS and more.

What sets Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub apart is our treatment: our therapists have extensive post-graduate training in shoulder injuries and can provide you with an accurate diagnosis and a strong treatment plan. We treat you – and only you – for your entire session. And for those shoulder injuries that just can’t seem to heal no matter how much physio you have, we can provide a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, which is effective even with the most serious shoulder injuries. Our objective is this: we want to not only treat your pain, but prevent it from recurring.

For shoulder pain relief, we recommend the following:

Once we have determined a diagnosis, we then use a combination of various techniques, such as trigger point release and PNF stretching, Gunn IMS, ultrasound therapy, and exercise prescription to alleviate your pain and treat the root cause of your injury.

In addition, our physiotherapists know that treatment for shoulder pain is most effective when it is used in combination with other modalities – such as massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic care, stretch therapy and more. As part of Electra Health, you can easily access any other treatment type you need.

What Can I Expect From My Session?

At your first appointment, you will meet with one of our physiotherapists, who will take a detailed health history from you and hear your chief concerns and complaints. From here, he or she will perform an assessment, which includes a series of special tests and range of motion tests to determine a diagnosis for your pain.

Based on your diagnosis, your physiotherapist will perform treatment to help alleviate symptoms, using a combination of manual therapies, stretching and strengthening exercises. Our physiotherapists are trained in a variety of different techniques, including IMS, acupuncture, ultrasound therapy, low-level laser therapy, PNF stretching and exercise prescription. Depending on your injury, they will recommend different techniques and treatments for you.

You will also receive a complete treatment plan, which includes any additional treatments that you need, exercise prescription, an at-home stretching and strengthening plan, and any additional tips to help alleviate symptoms of pain.

In some instances, our physiotherapists may recommend other types of treatment – such as chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture. Because Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub is part of a larger multidisciplinary clinic called Electra Health, getting access to these treatments is easy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is physiotherapy good for a shoulder injury?

Yes! In fact, physiotherapy is the cornerstone for treatment of a shoulder injury. That’s because the shoulder joint and surrounding area is a complex system of ligaments, joints, bones and muscles. As physiotherapists, our treatment goal is to make sure that all these different components are working together properly, which alleviates your pain and prevents it from recurring.

When should I start physio after a shoulder injury?

Generally speaking, we recommend that you see one of our physiotherapists immediately after the onset of your injury. However, this is largely dependent on the type of injury you have. If you are looking for physiotherapy after a surgical operation on your shoulder for example, your doctor must clear you before you begin physical therapy.

Why is shoulder pain worse at night?

If your shoulder pain is worse at night, this is usually a sign of one of three following conditions: bursitis, tendonitis, or rotator cuff injuries. Our physiotherapists can provide you with an accurate diagnosis for your shoulder pain during your initial appointment.

How can I prevent shoulder pain?

With the right plan, many types of shoulder pain and injuries can be prevented. Here are our best practices for keeping shoulder pain and injuries at bay:

  1. Exercise with the right form. Take time to make sure you are paying attention to correct movements and position when you exercise, and that you’re not overusing the muscles surrounding your shoulders.

  2. Get regular manual therapy treatments, like physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture etc. to keep your muscles flexible and tension-free.

  3. Focus on your posture. This is the key to avoid painful and recurring shoulder, neck and back conditions.

  4. Make sure to stretch. Whether you’re working at a desk all day or bench-pressing PRs, making sure you get good stretches in is crucial to maintaining shoulder health.

  5. Listen to your body. If it hurts, don’t ignore it. Stop what you’re doing and see one of our physiotherapists to figure out what’s going on.

At Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub, our physiotherapists are here to support you through your shoulder injury and recovery. With post-graduate training, an emphasis on patient care, and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment if needed, you can trust that you are in the right hands.

Using a combination of diagnostic testing, manual therapies, ultrasound, low-level laser, exercise prescription, and more, we aim to get you back – and stay – feeling your best!

I was dealing with a rare condition causing some facial paralysis. Christina Wong is so helpful and caring about her patients. She helped me understand the road to recovery, massage techniques and ways to activate my facial nerves and facial muscles and what to expect with the symptoms I felt as I healed. My condition made me anxious and I found that few people in medicine understand it fully. Thankfully I talked with Christina who specializes in facial muscular nerve retraining so I could relax and allow myself to heal without stress. God bless her.
